CHANDIGARH: Indications are off-spinner
Harbhajan Singh might be available to play the first Test against Australia after having recovered from a calf muscle injury.
Harbhajan sported a bandage while training on Monday and later underwent an MRI scan at a local hospital, raising doubts over his fitness even as physiotherapist Nitin Patel declined to comment.
On Tuesday afternoon, though, Harbhajan was back at nets, along with two other players under the injury scanner, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.
In fact, the trio was the first to bat at nets.
The Jalandhar bowler, who has an envious record against Australia, scalping 79 wickets from 14 Tests, spent nearly 45 minutes in the middle, bowling, batting and going through a routine catching session under the watchful eyes of coach Gary Kirsten and bowling coach Eric Simmons.
Sehwag, who was hit on the right knee by Ishant Sharma on Sunday, too looked fit to play as he launched into the bowlers. Gambhir too seemed to have recovered after being hit on his right wrist by a
Ben Hilfenhaus bouncer while playing for Board President’s XI on Sunday. The first Test begins on October 1.
